FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the books and the writing process
I've always enjoyed storms and loved Avatar: The Last Airbender growing up. During my mid to late teenage years the concept of Storm Hearted was made because I wanted an urban fantasy setting. I was tired of fantasy set in old Europe. The Cormeum series takes place an a unique earth that has evolved technology like the 2010s.
Obviously it is the protagonist, Lemuel Nunick. He is the focal point of the series with his grand character arc of learning empathy and how to manage his emotions. The Thunderstorm is a symbolic expression of his inner turmoil. Petra Quince is a close second due to her rising up to challenges and becoming a leader. She struggles with fearing the future hence why the Earthquake is her inner storm. She has to develop solid footing and march forward in the shaky present. Third would be the final protagonist Ashton Juke who is a foil for the rest of the cast. His impulsive insecure behavior aligns well with the fast pace nature of the Lightning Storm he embodies.
And then there are the side characters, in terms of writing I love the characters that draw out the humorous tendencies of the main cast. They help lighten the tone in what would otherwise be a story full of tragedy.
Currently I am writing Book 2 which should be published by 2027. I plan for the entire series to be about 5-6 books total. The ending is already outlined with major beats scattered throughout the rest of the books. When the full series will be released is unknown. Eventually a second edition of each book will be done with more sketch artwork and updated prose.
